In Iron Rent
The Bluhenden has reigned as Hierarch for eleven years, when she seized the title from Alptraum, a Mastigos of the now-defunct cabal remembered as the Horrors’ Hearts. Her ascension was followed by a purge of the Hearts, who were found to be thoroughly corrupted in soul, though the details were never widely shared.
Her rule has been difficult, always in the shadows of Nazi Germany. Despite years of infiltration and influence, the Reich defied the influence of the Silver Ladder, as mages and their allies were by nature subversive. The Bluhenden and her caucus made some inroads, but to this day they claim that they were thwarted by clever enemies, who allowed the Nazis to run rampant. No evidence of Seer or Scelesti influence has ever come to light, which has led some, especially among the few Free Council mages, to mutter that the pogroms and purges were at the Ladder’s command.
The Bluhenden maintains a public, Sleeper persona as Adelheid Schoenkopf, the widow of a disgraced industrialist. She is a matron of the surviving upper classes in Berlin, and is best known for her support of the arts, particularly music. To many observers’ surprise, her meager empire managed to survive both the Third Reich and the Soviet Army. She seems strongly positioned for a new postwar Gemeinderat, but other cabals see an opportunity to change the Gemeinderat’s leadership.
